Tenbury Wells, UK –  Regal Tenbury Wells is excited to present its first-ever Regal Opera Festival coming this May. This festival introduces live opera to Tenbury, featuring small-scale fringe companies known for their innovative and fresh approaches to productions. It’s a great opportunity for both opera lovers and new audiences to experience something unique and intimate. Typically found in bustling venues across London, fringe opera is celebrated for attracting new audiences and performers through its innovative performances. By hosting this festival, the Regal hopes to extend this unique experience beyond the capital, offering high-quality, accessible opera to the wider community. Tickets are available for Regal Friends now and will open to the general public on Friday, 20th December at midday.

Festival Lineup:

  • Carmen Re-imagined (Saturday, 3rd May, 7:30 PM): Rogue Opera presents a daring, new interpretation of Bizet’s iconic opera Carmen. With a fresh English script by Director Bronwen Stephens-Harding and scored for just four voices and piano, this production strips back the grandeur to focus on the raw emotions and complex dynamics of love, freedom, and destiny. Set in an intimate environment, audiences will experience the passion and intensity of Carmen’s world up close.
  • Die Walküre Act I Unveiled (Sunday, 4th May, 7:30 PM): Act I of Wagner’s Die Walküre will be explored in a special performance featuring narration and insights. Soprano Erika Mädi Jones and tenor Brian Smith Walters, accompanied by pianist maestro Kelvin Lim, will guide the audience through the emotional and musical landscape of Wagner's masterpiece, providing a deep understanding of the story and its characters.
  • A Night at the Opera (Saturday, 10th May, 7:30 PM): Returning by popular demand, this gala event features a collection of the most beautiful arias, duets, and ensembles from the world’s greatest composers including Mozart, Puccini, and Verdi. Highlight performances by opera singers including soprano Erika Mädi Jones and tenor Andrew Henley, with pianist Charlotte Forrest, alongside a scratch opera chorus from the Neen Sollars and Milson Community Choir, will ensure an evening of high-quality entertainment and unforgettable musical moments.
  • BROADCAST | THE ROYAL OPERA | DIE WALKÜRE (Wednesday, 14th May, 5:15 PM): Experience the drama and spectacle of Wagner’s Die Walküre live from Covent Garden. This powerful broadcast adds a grand scale event to our festival, showcasing a love story that threatens to alter worlds amidst a backdrop of divine conflict.

Creating an Opera Experience for Everyone
“Fringe opera is about breaking down the barriers that make traditional opera seem inaccessible,” says Erika Wooding, Head of Marketing at Regal Tenbury Wells. “Our festival is dedicated to introducing new and unconventional productions and operatic experiences that resonate with our audiences, ensuring that everyone can experience the powerful emotions, timeless stories and wonderful music that opera offers.

Ordinary Days

Ordinary Days The Musical is returning to The Old Joint Stock Theatre for a limited engagement next April and then transferring to Upstairs at the Gatehouse in London.

Playing at the Old Joint Stock Wednesday 9th April to Sunday 20th April 2025 and to Upstairs at the Gatehouse Tuesday 22nd April to Sunday 27th April join us for a heartfelt and life affirming evening that will leave you laughing one second and crying the next.

Following the tremendous success of The Old Joint Stock Theatre’s five-star summer show First Date, which garnered rave reviews and sold-out performances, The Old Joint Stock, now in collaboration with West End Best Friend Productions, is back with another must-see production.

About the Show:
Ordinary Days tells the story of four young New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfilment, happiness, love, and cabs. Through a score of vibrant and memorable songs, their experiences ring startlingly true to life. Ordinary Days is an original musical for anyone who's ever struggled to appreciate the simple things in a complex place. With equal doses of humour and poignancy, it celebrates how 8.3 million individual stories combine in unexpected ways to make New York City such a unique and extraordinary home.

Ordinary Days The Musical is brought to life under the direction of Karl Steele, with associate director Emily Susanne Lloyd and produced by the Old Joint Stock and West End Best Friend.

Director Karl Steele Commented:
“There is something beautifully subtle about Ordinary Days and I’ve had the pleasure of directing this piece previously. I've loved exploring how a shared experience, a connection, a coincidence can form in any way during your everyday routine and how that can bring people together. The ordinary being extraordinary. What's wonderful about this piece is finding those layers and revealing how connected we all are without always being aware of it.”
